Michael Kono - RMT

SPA DIRECTOR JOINS HARBOURVIEW MASSAGE CLINIC

Michael Kono discovered the Comox Valley after staying at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa for a weekend retreat back in 2001. “The Comox Valley seemed like the perfect place to raise a family.” Michael moved to Courtenay with his wife, Lucinda, and daughter, Emiko, after securing a position as a massage therapist at the Kingfisher Oceanside Spa. During his tenure there, Michael became a member of the management team and the Director of Spa Operations.

As Spa Director, Michael’s focus was to create a community that allowed each individual an opportunity to challenge their regular way of being, an opportunity of awareness. Emphasis was placed on honest dialogue, trust and most importantly to embrace change towards personal and professional growth.

This focus and belief system is how he approaches his life, as a husband, father, brother, and as a massage therapist. “As a massage therapist I am constantly provided an opportunity to use my expertise to provide support and healing. By the reverse token, each patient provides an opportunity for me to learn about myself and challenge my old belief systems within the roles I play.”

“Harbourview Therapeutic Massage Clinic allows me to nurture and be nurtured because the clinic environment emphasizes support and open communication for each team member and client that walks through our door,” says Kono. With the emphasis on wellness, both physical and emotional, Harbourview provides the right setting for Michael to practice what he believes in a clinic setting.

Michael Kono graduated from WCCMT in 1998. Along with the extensive education received at the WCCMT, Michael has additional training in Soft Tissue Release Therapy, Positional Release Therapy, and Muscle Balance and Function course work. “The coursework that I received so far deals with creating balance within the body and allows me to approach the body from a neurological standpoint while using soft tissue manipulation. From an emotional viewpoint, massage is able to provide a moment in someone’s day that will allow them to relieve the stress of daily life by changing their focus from their minds to their bodies,” says Kono
